Davis Cup Weekend – Quarter-Finals – Canada vs. Italy in Vancouver

UPDATE (7 Apr) : Milos made quick work of Andreas Seppi today to send Canada to Davis Cup semi-finals. He did drop a set, but he seemed dominant throughout most of the match. SFs will be played in Serbia in September.

Check the @MilosRaonicBlog twitter feed for some pics and other info from today!

UPDATE (6 Apr) : Nestor and Pospisil won a long, 4.5-hour-or-so match against Fognini and Bracciali. 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 3-6, 15-13. What a match! Singles tomorrow afternoon, where Milos and Pospisil will try to take Canada to semi-finals! An win by either Canadian tomorrow would get the job done and make further Canadian tennis history...

Milos will be up first in front of the Vancouver crowd against Andreas Seppi, currently ranked at career-high #18 and Italian #1.

------------

UPDATE (5 Apr): Pospisil went down to Seppi. Raonic takes out Seppi. Canada's tied with Italy going into tomorrow's doubles match with Nestor/Pospisil trying to give #TeamCanada the lead. 1. Milos just tweeted a couple of minutes ago that he has arrived in Monaco and for him it’s nice to see the Mediterranean Sea.

Milos lost to Montanes in the 2nd Round in Monte Carlo last year so there is hope for a better Result this time.

    • And just in case anyone doesn’t know: Our Guy has now his own Website:

      http://milosraonicofficial.com/

      • Yup, saw that a while back. Not much there unfortunately… I like that his scheduled is published, that’s useful.

I had asked that we work together but they weren’t interested in me helping with the site at all, unless I gave them this one… Which I didn’t necessarily think was fair. Then they didn’t answer my emails…

  2. Nice Bonus for Milos: He did get 140 Ranking Points for his 2 DC wins. He’s back into Top 15 today.

Nice Bonus for Canada: The Team now has accumulated 8.894,38 Points. That will be good enough to get seeded when the DC World Group Draw for 2014 is made in October which means that we won’t have to face such tough Opponents like Czech Republic, Spain, USA, etc. in the 1st Round. Canada is # 7 in the DC World Rankings.

    • Good point Daniel, thanks. Hadn’t realized the win had guaranteed seeding for next year. That’s great. I hope Nestor is able to stay healthy, though the doubles results haven’t been that great until this weekend’s tie, I think Canada will need him to play at his best to have hopes of getting any further than we have this year!

      • I hope Nestor get healthy. Agreeing with you on that. Hats off to him for playing the Doubles in the midst of a calf injury sustained in Miami. Unbelievable effort from him.

Milos is Monte Carlo bound as far as I read from his Twitter. Novak Djokovic might not be able to play there. Same for Querrey and to lesser extend Haas if he reaches Semifinal or Final in Houston.

  3. I think Milos and the rest of the team, in particularly Milos as he is in the upper echelon of world caliber, now will draw confidence and maturity from this exceptional Davis Cup win over a very tough Italian team.
We should see the positive results in the next few weeks.

  4. Milos won against Fognini 6-4, 7-6 (4), 7-5 and has levelled the Tie with Italy at one Rubber apiece.

    • Can’t wait for the match versus Seppi!

      • Milos well EAT Seppi as breakfast on Sunday. Have you seen how weak Seppi was against Pospisil?

        • I am very optimistic as well, but he is a top-20 player currently at the height of his career ranking of 18. It has potential to be a good match, especially given the stakes for both players. I still think it’s very much Milos’ match to lose.

          • Agreeing with you. When Milos steps on this particular Surface he’s just a different Player. I hope he doesn’t get too nervous.

          • Didn’t seem to have any jitters today. Made us Canadians proud! Can’t wait for Monte Carlo, I hope he’s able to make a good transition onto clay, I expect he’ll work on that for the next 1.5-2 weeks before he has to play.

  5. Canadas No 2 Player Vasek Pospisil has just won the 1st Set against Andreas Seppi 7-5. Keep going Vashy.

  6. The Canadians got the best possible Draw:

Vasek Pospisil will play 1st against Andreas Seppi followed by Milos against Fabio Fognini.

Win or lose Vasek can rest for Doubles. The H2H between Vasek and Seppi is 1-1.

Fognini meanwhile has lest rest as he’ll will be chosen for Doubles Action against Vasek and Daniel Nestor.
