Miami 1000 — Sony Open

Looks like Nadal's withdrawn from Miami, so won't be on court again until the clay courts in Europe. Looks like he's mounting a comeback against delPo now... Was down a set and a break, now up a break in the 2nd set... Looks like we'll see a 3rd!

By the way, Nadal's withdrawal means Milos will be seeded in the top 16 for Miami, as Daniel noted in a comment on the previous post... Draw still to come, and this should mean his path to the quarters is a little less painful!

From Daniel:

Rafael Nadal has "Withdrawn" from Miami as expected.

So the Seeds are:

# 1 Nole # 2 Muzza # 3 Ferrer # 4 Berdych # 5 Delpo # 6 Tsonga # 7 Tipsarevic # 8 Gasquet

Milos will be seeded # 14

UPDATE - March 18:   [From Daniel]

Milos got a pretty decent Draw in Miami:

1st Round BYE 2nd Round Winner of two Qualifiers 3rd Round Possible Winner of Querrey/Kubot Match Round of 16: Tomas Berdych

Reaching his Round of 16 Match should be doable. He did beat Berdych in Cincy last year. [...and if he gets past Berdych, it's Gasquet or Almagro, probably, in QF.]

Update! (23 Mar, 1pm Eastern)

Looks like the Gasquet match is over on time, so the Radwanska match should start on time at 1pm Eastern on the Grandstand court. After this we have the Isner match, so we're probably going to see Milos at 4pm, 3:30pm Eastern at the earliest... Let's hope there's no rain or power outages in the mean time.

Coverage: There is a video feed from the Grandstand court today (yesterday there was not). This doesn't mean that this will be the feed SportsNet will show, but they should have the option. The Murray/Tomic match might still be on the Main Court, or the Venus Williams match might have started, so they could be showing that...

Update again: Aggy's match just got over, so Isner match just starting as we wait for Milos on Grandstand. Maybe 5:30pm EDT before it starts?

** FLASH **   Watch the match now [6:30pm Eastern] on Sportsnet.ca  >> http://www.sportsnet.ca/sportsnet-live/  <<   Thanks Sportsnet!

Update: Milos wins rather easily, 6-2, 6-4. A relaxed and confident Milos is set to take on Sam Querrey in 3rd Rnd!

UPDATE - March 24:

Milos is scheduled to play Sam Querrey on Grandstand tomorrow, Monday, March 25th, not before 5pm EDT (after Berdych v Falla). There are 4 matches before that match, which begin at 11am, so it may be a little later. Hopefully Sportsnet ONE will carry the match.

  1. Milos had to withdraw from his 3rd Round Match against Sam Querrey in Miami because od sickness. That’s bad BUT Davis Cup against Italy is much more important at this stage.

The next two Matches are probably the biggest Matches of Milos’ entire Tennis Life. He can make HISTORY again should he lift Canada into the Davis Cup Semifinals.

  2. Good routine win for Milos.Opponent totally outclassed by Milos.
Next will be tough with Querry.
    Good Luck Milos.
    It’s your turn

  3. Canadas Davis Cup Capt. Martin Laurendeau is attending Milos’ Match.

Interesting: Milos won the Coin Toss and elected to receive.

    • I thought it was different to see him there… Good to see the support though.

I think Milos was really taking this match easy. He was joking with the ref beforehand, and seemed very relaxed and confident. I think it’s a good thing. That said, he will need to take things a little more seriously in the next round versus Querrey…

  4. Milos just walked onto Court for his 2nd Round Match vs Rufin. We know already whom Milos faces in Round 3 if he wins: It’s Sam Querrey.

  5. Thank-you Tomaso for the much appreciated information regarding the Milos vs G. Rufin match tomorrow in Miami.

  6. It’s 9 PM in BC as I write this. My seach for the date and time of Milo’s first match in Miami is nowhere to be found. Any TV or streaming? I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this. Thank-you.

    John

    • Sportsnet ONE has ATP Tennis scheduled for Saturday, 12:30 to 4:30pm Pacific time (3:30 to 7:30pm Eastern). Milos plays G. Rufin third-up after 1:00pm Eastern (after Isner v Dodig) — so probably 3:30pm or so. Hopefully our friends at Sportsnet are with us on this one!

  7. Milos will play Frenchman Guillaume Rufin on Saturday. A nice Match to get things started in Miami. I’m hearing the Courts in Florida are a tad faster then in IW. I hope that’s true although I can’t quite believe it as Courts were slower in Miami the last two years.

  8. Re what you wrote
    1 Nole
    # 2 Muzza
    # 3 Ferrer
    # 4 Berdych
    # 5 Delpo
    # 6 Tsonga
    # 7 Tipsarevic
    # 8 Gasquet

Who is Muzza? Is that Murray’s nick name?

  9. I don’t see Raonic in the draw. What happened? No news of him withdrawing.

    http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2013/403/mds.pdf

    • He is in the draw… Bottom half, left side of the pdf. He’s got a bye in the first round, and will play one of two qualifiers in the 2nd round. His third rnd match would be S. Querrey, L. Kubot, or a qualifier. Berdych and Verdasco are likely 4th Round opponents.

  10. Milos got a pretty decent Draw in Miami:

    1st Round BYE
2nd Round Winner of two Qualifiers
3rd Round Possible Winner of Querrey/Kubot Match
    Round of 16: Tomas Berdych

Reaching his Round of 16 Match should be doable. He did beat Berdych in Cincy last year.

  11. For Starters: The Miami Men’s Main Draw will be released today at Noon ET. Spaniard David Ferrer will attend the Draw Ceremony.
