New Headlines on tsn.ca, same pictures.

TSN.CA's Tennis section is again dominated by Milos.  Here is a screenshot of the headline earlier this morning on the website:

TSN.ca Headline - 13 Feb 2011

Of course, you will recognize this photo from their coverage of the Australian Open in January and now, as then, it is kind of a funny picture to show (even though it may show excellent form and tireless determination in his face).

Later today, TSN was re-using another Aussie Open photo in their new headline story.  It is too bad they didn't use any photos from San José.  This photo is better than the one from earlier this morning at least - and it shows the Canadian Flag in the background to boot!

Verdasco reaches SAP Open final against Raonic

Excerpt from Tennischannel.com article:

Verdasco and Raonic have never played but will become quite familiar with each other in the next few days because of a scheduling quirk. After playing Sunday in San Jose, the two will meet again on Wednesday in the first round in Memphis.

``I prefer to win tomorrow and lose in Memphis so I will have one more title,'' Verdasco said.

Raonic has had a strong start to the season, going through qualifying and winning three matches in the Australian Open and making it to his first ATP World Tour final. He has shot up the rankings from 156th at the end of last year to 84th heading into this week. He is expected to be 66th if he loses on Sunday and 59th if he wins the title.

``It's nice getting that kind of attention,'' he said. ``But more importantly it's nice doing well at the top level of tennis because that's what my goals are.''

The 20-year-old is looking to become the first Canadian to win a title on the ATP World Tour since Greg Rusedski won in Seoul in April 1995.

He leads the tournament with 45 aces in just three matches, winning a staggering 87.4 percent of first-serve points. He tuned up for the final by playing Ivo Karlovic in an exhibition, losing a pair of tiebreakers to the big-serving Croat.

Monfils withdraws, Raonic advances

Raonic is currently playing an exhibition match against "Dr." Ivo Karlovic. Gael Monfils withdrew from today's match citing a wrist injury and as a result, Milos advances to his first ATP Final without having a play a semi-final. Neat. Although advancing to the finals in a walkover, beating veterans like Malisse and Blake is no small feat.

It's no surprise that the first set of this exhibition match went to a tiebreak, since both players tend to protect their serve well. It looks like the second set is heading towards a similar result.

It'll be interesting to see who Raonic will play in the finals, though I'm sure it'll be a good match regardless of who advances from the Verdasco vs Del Potro semi.

Good luck in the finals, Milos.

Versus Ferrer Tonight (…and another headline)

Raonic's next test is the afternoon of Day 8 against 7th ranked David Ferrer, who ousted Richard Berankis in a 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 in the third round.  Unfortunately, the Raonic - Ferrer match is the last match of the afternoon session, which means it probably won't begin until 1:30pm in Melbourne at the earliest (which is 10:30pm in Nova Scotia and 9:30pm Eastern Time).  This isn't the best of news for those of us in Eastern North America that have to work in the morning.

The best way to catch the match in entirety is to stream it live at TSN.ca, there are less commercials and no switching back and forth between other games.  There are normally three streams available (HiSense Arena, Margaret Court Arena, and Rod Laver Arena).  Raonic will be playing in HiSense Arena so make sure you choose that stream.  Follow this link to TSN.ca Tennis, and then the link should be on the furthest-right column on the page:

In the Headlines…

So, here we are.  Canadians everywhere are excited about and proud of our new hope for Men's Singles Tennis greatness, and roughly 1o minutes after Milos' 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win over Mikhail Youzhny at the Aussie Open finished streaming from TSN.ca last night, this is the headline and picture they posted on their tennis page:

TSN.ca Headline - 21 Jan 2011

By the next day, Milos Raonic was still on top of the tennis headlines - but by Saturday afternoon (22 Jan) there was a better picture accompanying it:

There's no doubt that this is the beginning of a big year for Milos, his steadfast composure and consistent, lightning-fast serves are making waves at the Australian Open and he shows no signs of stopping yet...
