The 2012 US Open Draw for Milos
Milos Raonic to meet Santiago Giraldo in the first round, potential match with Andy Murray in the fourth round.

Draw is out; Milos is in the second quarter, with Murray. His “on paper” path to R16: (with ATP rankings)
1. S. Giraldo (47) 2. I. Andreev (97) 3. M. Granollers (25) 4. A. Murray (4)
Not bad, overall: a “par” performance will take Milos to R16, for 180 points, and a probable ATP ranking of 15. If he can get past Andy Murray, he’ll meet Roger Federer, which of course we would all love to see.

Thanks to Daniel for pointing out the below in a comment on the previous post…
I didn’t realize the US Open seeding differentiated the top 4, top 8, top 12, and top 16…

Um slight correction…it is true that now since Milos is seeded 16 he wont face a top 16 player until the 4rth round…BUT (and i knew that even before the draw has been released) he would 100% face one of the top 4 players (in this case Federer, Djokovic, Murray, or Ferrer) because hes in the upper 10′s. However if he was ranked 9-12, or 13 in this case (since Nadal isn’t playing) then he would have faced the other top 8 players, who are ranked 5-8 (9).

Very good draw for Milos. It is the most ideal quarter for him since he hasn’t beaten Ferrer in 4 tries, Federer in 3 and Djokovic is better than Murray. Murray isn’t 100% either and the knee injury could give him some problems against Milos, assuming both play according to their seeding and make it to the 4R.
Tsonga most likely would await Milos in the QF. There’s no telling which Tsonga will show up though so Milos has a chance of making it to the SF.

Just realized I wrote Murray in the QFs in the subtitle… should be 4th round. Was in quite a hurry when I threw that up last night.

I too had an attack of wishful thinking in suggesting that if Milos defeats Murray — which he IS capable of doing — he would automatically meet Roger. But he would of course first need to deal with Tsonga — which again is not out of the realm of possibility. Bring it on!
