Eastbourne – Aegon International 250

June 19: Dodig d Milos 6-2 7-6(7).  CBC:  http://www.cbc.ca/sports/tennis/story/2013/06/19/sp-tennis-atp-raonic-eastburne.html  <<

June 18: Milos is first up against Dodig tomorrow on the Centre Court, 11am, Wed, June 19th. This is in about 6 hrs from now, which will be about 6am Eastern Time.

Milos has faced Dodig twice before, once on clay and once on hard court (Barcelona 2011 and Kooyong 2013, respectively). Milos won their most recent match in Kooyong in straights, while Dodig won their first-ever match in 3-sets in 2011.

Ivan Dodig defeated Denis Istomin today in their 1st rnd match 6-3, 6-4. Raonic is the top seed in the 250-level Eastbourne tournament and had a bye in the 1st rnd.

June 15: [Thanks for the heads-up, Sam!] Milos has received a wildcard to join the ranks at Easbourne, as top seed. Milos starts with a bye in round one; in round two will play either Denis Istomin or Ivan Dodig. If he wins that match things get interesting: either eighth-seed Fabio Fognini, or Grega Zemlja, Martin Klizan or Viktor Troicki, for QF.  A likely SF opponent would be Juan Monaco.

  1. Milos didn’t do well, but then it is just a match. By the way, did Isner do so well recently on grass and nobody is complaining with him, as some are with Milos.
I think Milos needs time to adapt to a new strategy and new coach. With the former one, he was going nowhere, anyway. Besides, Milos is tall and I don’t think grass will ever be a good surface for him. I think he will do better on hard court.

    • I guess it’s just the expectations, they are so high for Milos. We know what he’s capable of so it makes watching it that much worse!!!

  2. Somethings not right with Milos.
    Where is the swagger?
    New coach right choice?

    • Don’t think it’s the new coach, but I do agree the body language is not a good sign. Haven’t seen post-match interviews from Milos for these recent losses, but I will see if they are available somewhere. Would like to see his body language and hear his thoughts during those as well.

  3. Not looking good for Milos now. Went down 2-6 to Dodig in the first set, now on serve at 2-1 in the second. Ace count is not encouraging thus far: 2 for Milos, 7 for Dodig.

    • Painful to watch the end of that match, not a high point for Milos. Had chances, couldn’t keep it together to capitalize.

    • Very disappointing loss. Did not seem to serve his best and could not get a sniff off of Dodig’s serve. He’ll have to rebound in Wimbledon and hopefully have a better result. He is going to be the 17th seed so he will have a tougher time with it, although should he be able to make a run he could avoid the top 4 seeds until the quarterfinals rather than the 4th round. It’s a bit hard to expect that given his recent performance, but one can only hope he turns it around.

  4. Milos lost in the first round at the Gerry Weber open last week to a good player, Monfils. He needs more experience on the grass to prepare for Wimbledon. Grass is generally the fastest surface but his statistics on grass have been poor compared to hard, and even compared to clay. His clay win percentage is better than his grass.

If he wants to improve on his ranking and pass his best of 13th in the world, he is going to have to consistently do better at majors and Wimbledon is a great place to do that considering he only has 45 points to defend from last year.

  5. Time to break out Milos.
Hoping new coach, new techniques doesn’t make Milos think too much.
Short term loss for long term gain.
    Like Tiger Woods.
    Good luck also to Milos.

  6. It’s great to know Milos has been awarded a wild card and will be seeded number 1 at Eastbourne tournament. He gets thus a new opportunity to train on grass before wimbledon. May be Ljubicic helped in Milos’ decision to attend Eastbourne ? Be that as it may, good luck to Milos. We are all with him !
