Milos looking a little rusty to start 2013
Milos Raonic loses to Grigor Dimitrov, 6-3, 6-4, in 2nd round in Brisbane, Australia
We didn't see Milos at his best tonight (in more ways than one, was difficult to see his new "New Balance" digs with the only crappy internet stream I was able to find). Dimitrov looked very good throughout the match, whipping around and not allowing Milos' power game get into a groove.
It will be more practice on the menu for Milos this week, with us fans hoping he'll try to jump into the Heineken Open in New Zealand next week alongside players like Ferrer, Querry, Kohlschreiber, Monfils, and Tommy Haas.
Rankings heading into the Australian Open
Obviously, not being able to defend this week's 250 points from the 2012 win in Chennai will hurt Milos, more the reason to jump into the tournament in Auckland maybe? I hadn't considered this possibility as I didn't expect a loss today. If anyone's done the math on the possibility of Milos dropping out of the top 16/17 seeds for the Aussie Open, and when the cut off is, let us know!
UPDATE: See comments below from Daniel, looks like Milos can't drop any further than 16th this week, sitting at 15 right now unless Simon betters his result from last year, where he had a QF result in Brisbane.

Update Jan.7 — turns out Milos was not the only one to have difficulty with the “new and improved” 2013 version of Dimitrov! Puts Milos’ loss in perspective to see Dimitrov make it to the Finals, where he started off strong to lead Murray first set 3-0, though ultimately falling to the Scot 76(0) 64.

Milos will play the AAMI Classic in Kooyong this week to get some Match Practice I suspect.

Thanks for that news, Daniel! A good choice for Milos in preparation for the Austrailian Open: guaranteed three matches against strong competition.

Update Jan.4: Simon lost to M.Baghdatis at QF, so looks like Milos will hang onto 15-ranking till next week — Simon is playing, and unless upset again will bump Milos down to 16 then. Milos’ loss to Dimitrov yesterday was of course disappointing, especially when combined with dropping 250 points from last year’s win at Chennai. But this was a 250, so Milos will have other chances to pick up points. Performance at Aussie Open will be much more important.

good point, thanks Daniel. I can see him dropping to 16th after this week, Simon just has to win another game or two , but he can’t go lower since Wawrinka’s best result (win in Chennai this weekend) will still only get him up to 70 points behind Milos. If Nishikori wins this week, he’s still 135 pts behind Milos.
