Ambitious schedule tomorrow for Rogers Cup

New Schedule and Order Of Play

So, tournament organizers have planned to do the 3rd round (R16) tomorrow morning, and the QF round in the evening.  Milos will be playing either John Isner or Philipp Kohlschreiber, who will have just playing their 3rd Round match a few hours earlier.  Milos hasn't played either player.

On the doubles side, Raonic/Troicki handed a walk-over to Paes/Melzer.  I couldn't find any reasons for the withdrawal, but I figure Milos is planning to focus on singles play, and Troicki is escaping the rain...

Click on this screenshot of the new OoP to access the schedule of play at RogersCup.com.  For us fans, either watching in the stands or on CBC or Sportsnet on TV or streaming (see the bright green "Live Streaming" link at RogersCup.com), it promises to be quite a day.  For the players, having to play both matches in one day will probably be tough, but I think they rested well enough today : ).

The Weather

Now for the very bad news.  While this schedule sounds great and would put the tournament back on track, the weather looks no better for the rest of the tournament.  Here's what Environment Canada is predicting:

Tonight
Periods of rain ending overnight then cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm this evening and overnight. Amount 5 to 10 mm. Low 17.

Friday
Cloudy. 60 percent chance of showers in the morning. Periods of rain beginning near noon. Risk of a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon. Amount 10 to 20 mm. Wind becoming northeast 20 km/h late in the morning. High 21.

Friday night
A few showers ending after midnight then cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm in the evening and overnight. Low 18.

Saturday
Showers. High 21.

Sunday
Cloudy with 30 percent chance of showers. Low 16. High 25.

This definitely puts the tournament in a tricky spot.

I look forward to all this rain getting overwith during the thunderstorms tonight, and waking up to a sunny GTA!

  1. The walkover in doubles was listed as “Troicki – back”.

  2. And he is leapfrogging up the standings. He is going to finish this tournament inside the top 20, possibly inside the top 15:

Here’s hoping the rain passes this afternoon

    • Doing well tonight in the QF along with a good result at Cincinnatti will ensure good seeding for the US Open… Very exciting!

    • Thanks again for that LiveTennis.eu link, GG — I check it every day, now! As of today, two top-16 players (Nadal and Almagro) will not be doing Cincinnati, so with some crossed fingers Milos may be seeded there, even at ATP#18. Then, given no points to defend (unlike Fish, Gasquet, Stepanek, etc.) a little more finger crossing may get Milos to 16-seed again at US Open. Looking forward to match vs Isner or Kohlschreiber — if it ever stops raining!!

      • Looking forward to that match too, but Isner/Kohlschreiber hasn’t started yet, so we’re running out of time if the winner of that match is to have “sufficient rest” to play against Milos tonight, still scheduled for 7. As of now, they’re just letting us back into our seats for the Djokovic match… We’ll see : )

        • Do you have a definition of “sufficient rest”?? I can’t find anything. But Fish and Gasquet are out now (7:30pm EDT) after having played earlier today. Isner just d Kohlschreiber in 3 sets. Still time for Isner v Milos tonight? Incidentally, who-ever wins Fish v Gasquet will be ahead of Milos in points, so he’ll have to beat Isner to get seeded in Cincinnati: more motivation!

      • WRONG (sorry). Cincinnati draw is out, so obviously Rogers Cup results will have no effect there. Milos plays Gasquet first-round: bad-luck draw for both of them, I think. Raonic v Isner live now (10:15pm EDT).

  3. Let’s take it to the bright side : for the first time, Raonic is in Quarter Finals of a Masters. He was ready to play against Murray. He doesn’t have to, which is a pity in a way, but then he has really a good opportunity to reach the finals if he plays well, and this on his home soil ! We will see who he has to play with. But, for sure, go Milos ! We are all supporting you !

    • Yeah, theis potentially puts him in as a good seed for the US Open, a huge boost of confidence, good for Canadian fans watching here in Toronto (can’t wait), all around good for Milos and #TeamRaonic !!!
