Stockholm Draw

Milos Raonic has drawn Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) in the first round of the If Stockholm Open.

Raonic has been seeded No.6 ahead of Ivan Dodig and Tommy Robredo. He is in the same half of the draw as top seed Gael Monfils and the veteran Juan Ignacio Chela. You can view the singles draw here.

Despite being seeded, Milos has still drawn a tough opponent in the first round. However, there are few easy outings when playing tournaments at this level. Baghdatis recently made the finals in Kuala Lumpur, losing to Janko Tipsarevic (SRB). He then lost to Andy Murray in the first round in Tokyo, who will be looking to defend his title in Shanghai tomorrow. Raonic and Baghdatis have yet to meet on the tour.

UPDATE: Milos Raonic will be last up on Center Court against Marcos Baghdatis on Tuesday, October 18.

Play begins at Noon local time in Stockholm, and by Tennis Canada's estimation the Raonic match may start around 2-2:30PM ET tomorrow. There is no word if Sportsnet will cover the tournament yet, but TennisTV will be streaming it so we should be able to watch it online.

My preferred match is Milos ! He is doing well : ATP 29 now ! Top 30 ! Hope top 20 soon ! It will be a tough match, but he can win and it will get easier afterwards. go Milos ! With you whatever the result !

Thanks for that update Chris. Hopefully he’s on a little late, closer to 4 pm Eastern, so I can watch after work. Good timing for the West Coast though.

The indoor hardcourts of Stockholm could be big for Milos – let’s see a repeat of San Jose!

Yes, a bit of a tough draw for Milos first round ( tougher than for other seeds 5 to 8 ) but if Milos can keep up the solid play he’s show recently he should make it, and again second round, then a good test against Chela for the quarters. [Et puis Robert verra son match prefere, contre Monfis!] Good luck, Milos, we are watching you, and with you win-or-lose!

      I shall post in English ! I just said, as a Frenchman, I like Monfils, but Raonic first ! Except for Davis Cup where I find normal to support one’s country, I will always support Milos who is my favorite player ! By the way, Muller did very well against Nadal ! Congrats !

May I add a second comment ? I would like to thank you for this fans’ blog on Milos Raonic ! I was looking for such a blog. I love Milos way of playing and his personnality. I share his admiration for Pete Sampras and I admire how Milos had to play so hard to reach the point where he is. Thanks to you, I will be able to follow his achievments ! Good luck Milos ! Hope he will soon be in the top ten ! A French fan.
