{"id":870,"date":"2011-08-28T11:26:29","date_gmt":"2011-08-28T14:26:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/milosraonic.ca\/blog\/?p=870"},"modified":"2011-08-28T18:08:06","modified_gmt":"2011-08-28T21:08:06","slug":"canadians-qualify-for-the-us-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/milosraonic.ca\/blog\/2011\/08\/28\/canadians-qualify-for-the-us-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadians Qualify for the US Open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5>Raonic may have withdrawn from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a>, but we have some Canadian players who have qualified for the main draw at the final major of the year.<\/h5>\n<p>On the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/scores\/draws\/ms\/r1s2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Men's side<\/a>, Frank Dancevic will face <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atpworldtour.com\/Tennis\/Players\/Il\/M\/Marsel-Ilhan.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Marsel Ilhan<\/a> (TUR) in the first round. The two have yet to meet, but if you recognize Ilhan's name it is because Raonic defeated him earlier this year at Indian Wells. Coming off a solid performance in Montreal, Vasek Pospisil has qualified for the main draw and will have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atpworldtour.com\/Tennis\/Players\/Top-Players\/Lukas-Rosol.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Lukas Rosol<\/a> (CZE) as his first round opponent.<\/p>\n<p>As for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/scores\/draws\/ws\/r1s2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Women<\/a>, only Aleksandra Wozniak was able to make it through the qualifying rounds. She will face the young American <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/players\/overview\/wta314917.html\" target=\"_blank\">Christina McHale<\/a> to open the tournament. Rebecca Marino was entered directly into the main draw and will be up against <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/players\/overview\/wta040388.html\" target=\"_blank\">Gisela Dulko<\/a> (ARG) in the first round.<\/p>\n<p>Wozniak vs. McHale is currently the only match involving a Canadian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/scores\/schedule\/index.html?promo=subnav\" target=\"_blank\">scheduled<\/a> to go ahead on the first day. Of course, that is subject to change due to the effects of Hurricane (now Tropical Storm) Irene.<\/p>\n<p>EDIT: According to this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usopen.org\/en_US\/news\/weather.html\" target=\"_blank\">update<\/a>, the tournament should start on (or close to) schedule tomorrow with play starting as early as possible.
